About Wartime Chapters

Accessibility

Last updated

I want Wartime Chapters to be readable and usable by as many people as possible. Accessibility is part of the continuing work on the site.

Using the site

The site includes a skip-to-content link, visible keyboard focus, headings and navigation landmarks. You can choose light or dark appearance, follow your device setting, and enlarge text with your browser. Layouts adapt to narrow screens, and reduced-motion preferences are respected.

Photographs have alternative text and captions, with source information alongside them. Photo links open an enlarged viewer with a close control; Escape closes it. Search and profile filters have labelled controls. Main articles and ordinary links remain available without JavaScript, although search, filters and interactive controls need it.

What still needs care

This site has not had a full independent accessibility audit. WCAG 2.2 level AA is a development aim, not a claim of verified conformance. Keyboard checks and checks at narrow screen sizes do not cover every combination of assistive technology and browser.

Historical maps, diagrams and handwritten documents can contain detail that a short description cannot fully convey. Linked archive scans and PDFs may lack searchable text, reading order or accessible alternatives, and those external services are outside this site's control. Please ask if you need help with a particular item.

Report a barrier

Email hello@wartimechapters.com with the page address, what you were trying to do and what prevented it. If useful, include your browser and assistive technology, and the format that would help. You do not need to disclose a disability or medical information.

I will investigate and aim to provide a usable alternative where possible. This is a personal project, so I cannot promise a fixed response time. The privacy notice explains how your message is handled.
